The Solar Canopy at 619 Edgewood Ave

Now Completed!

The Solar Canopy at Edgewood @ the Beltline is now complete and producing power in the Old Fourth Ward District of Atlanta, GA.  Located at 619 Edgewood Ave, an 18,000 SF office building adjacent to the much anticipated Beltline project, the canopy creates a distinctive architectural feature on the three story building.  The result is one of the greenest and most exciting office spaces in Atlanta.

What is a Solar Canopy?  It is a canopy structure of course, but what makes this canopy unique is the use of solar modules covering the structure.  So in addition to providing shade and rain protection, the structure will produce clean renewable energy.  The canopy makes the terrace space more usable in any weather conditions, and keeps the sun out of the floor to ceiling windows that surround the building.  That shading is having a very positive impact on the tenants cooling requirements.

Perhaps coolest of all are the bifacial solar modules being used.  Sanyo’s HIT Double Technology absorbs reflective energy from the underside of the module as well as the top side, increasing production by up to 30% depending on its configuration.  The modules allow about 10% of the light to pass through them in a grid pattern, adding to the architectural interest of the system.

All this while producing a positive ROI project for the building owner.  For more information or to arrange a tour, give us a call.
